‘Scrappy’ Jets Hit Five!
Oxhey Jets 5 Deportivo Galicia 0
Combined Counties Division One
2nd September 2023
A big home win for Jets against Deportivo Galicia 5-0, but I think this was possibly Jets’ scrappiest match of the season.
Just one change from the midweek side which is rare but a good bounce back and don’t be fooled by the score GK Lewis Lavin had plenty to do at times almost as a last-gasp sweeper.
In possibly the hottest game of the season so far you could see both sides suffering from the heat and as already said it was scrappy and misplaced passes plenty.
Jets opened the scoring when after several excellent probing runs from Dylan, the visitors found a way to stop him. They brought him down and young Archie James bravely grabbed the ball to deny Putts the kick to convert powerfully 1-0 ( 15 min)
Dylan was again the architect when his shot was too hot to hold and Lewis Putman was on the spot to convert 2-0 (33 min)
Lewis Putman right on the halftime whistle following a twisting run was brought down and got up and converted himself 3-0 (45+2)
Happy at the break? Nope, Tom and Dave made clear it was untidy and wanted better and this time no slips, get a clean sheet.
Jets started how they finished, going at the visitors and it was again Dylan who superbly beat his man and slotted unselfishly a perfect cross-goal ball for Lewis Putman to complete his hat trick (56min)
With three assists it was justice that Dylan himself again burned off his man to hit an unstoppable drive past the keeper 5-0 (85 min) to wrap up the scoring.
Man of the match went to hat trick man Lewis Putman whose eight goals in three games have incredibly taken his tally past last season’s first-team leading goal scorer!
But you have to feel a bit for who must have been a very close runners-up today, as Dylan brought down for the first, had the shot for the second, laid on the fourth and scored the fifth. Some combinations that front three are.
