Good Point for Jets Against Strong Stotfold Line-up
Jets got an unlikely point in a tight match at Home to Stotfold. Jets got an early warning to ignore the league table when Dave Fuller’s programme from their line-up on Saturday had nine changes. Boy oh, boy did they have pace in the front line.
Jets didn’t know what hit them being ripped apart by the long up and over to the “rocket” until a revamp helped bottle him up a bit. He had, though, caused the damage by then putting the visitors one up in minutes.
Jets revamped and battled out the game but their performance was down individually, and the critical battle in the middle lost. Stotfold’s more direct play was more threatening than Jets slow passing game so often let down by the poor final ball too many times.
Close to half-time Jets had successive corners and each caused problems, and finally, Lewis Davis superb ball deceived the keeper whose fingers just failed to clear and the ball hit the net 1-1, and it stayed like that until the break.
The second half deteriorated with the gale force wind that whipped up. Stotfold had more opportunities, but Jets twice nearly snatched it with a Sim header before he came off with an injury. Jets then had the chance of the match for Luke Lloyd who hesitated and lost out.
In the final five minutes, two saves by Rob Partington kept Jets a hard-earned point. One I have to say a double starfish save as the ball sped high net-bound I think is the best save I’ve seen Rob make in his time at the club, to say top draw does not do it justice.
So no surprise no star player votes were requested it was a one man option, Rob Partington.
Must mention a fantastic gesture by the match referee Spencer Brewer who in a match dedicated to Tom Lake on the anniversary of his untimely young death in action with 1PWRR put his whole fee in the poppy tin on Tom’s memorial table. Football gesture at its best from Spencer and we wholeheartedly thank him.
Wasn’t a classic but Jets were more happy to hear the whistle than Stotfold. If Stotfold gets this team on the pitch every match, their troubles will soon be over.
