Jets Bounce Back In Style
Oxhey Jets 1 Windsor & Eton FC 0
6th August 2024
Combined Counties Division One
Jets staff made changes following the lacklustre performance on Saturday to both personnel and line-up and it worked a treat with a superb 1-0 win against one of the big fancied sides for the season Windsor & Eton.
Windsor can boast massive 300-plus home gates at the Crown Estates ground, a crowd we can only dream of, and with nine of Jets squad still on the beach and with contrasting results Saturday, Windsor would have been looking forward to this one more than Jets.
It was an all-out attack opening with half-chances galore at both ends. Twice for Oxhey Elliot Harris went through one-on-one with the keeper but was denied one and saw his second chance brush the wrong side of the post.
George Rice, following a long pre-season holiday, was recalled and rewarded the staff by slotting the winner at the back post after a period of Oxhey pressure 1-0 (32 minutes).
Jets almost extended the lead when Liam Osborne’s excellent header clattered the crossbar but it eluded the net. The lead was preserved to the break.
Windsor had more of the game in the second half and clattered Jets post, but it was a real ding-dong of a match. Jets did have 4 yellows, which seemed very harsh, and enough added time played to worry about the planning permission for the lights, but Jets held on using all five subs as players were tired and leggy, and fell like stones at the end, but held out for the win. What a great bounce-back result.
The Carlsberg man of the match went to David Lopes on his debut.
