Good Performance but Jets Fail to Finish
Langley 1 Oxhey Jets 0
10th August 2024
Combined Counties Division One
Jets will be licking their wounds, and they are bitterly disappointed to lose to the league leaders. Jets were excellent in the first half taking the game to Langley on the excellent Uxbridge FC new Astro, a surface Jets are dreaming of owning.
The first big chance fell to Elliot but he chose to go for the dramatic lob on a 1:1 and chances like this missed are expensive for Jets.
Jets had all the play with Olly Pope excellent in the first half and twice Jets thought they had the lead on goalmouth scrambles but somehow Jets defended their own big chance with Kimber blocking and Ossie heading over.
It was an excellent forty-five for Jets, but nothing to show for it. The second half was not to be as much Jets, and during some fifteen minutes of pressure, Jets were to pay the price. Kimber and Osbourne were excellent defending, and the back line was comfortable, but the midfield was being surrendered, and Langley took their chance, and it was to be the decider.
Jets, as always, played the squad and, with injuries to Rice and Reid, Patrick Brander and Dom Mosca, both returning holiday players, came on and did well. It seemed to have paid dividends as Patrick sprinted clear to slot home. However, a late and tight flag denied him and Jets a share of the points.
It was a strong performance in defeat, giving much hope and belief. We need to nail the game and chances while on top. Langley are another excellent side. Jets have started the league programme against three of the strongest teams, so it’s been a learning curve for the young squad.
Carlsberg’s Jets Man of the Match had contenders. Olly Pope was excellent, more so in the first half, and the back line was solid with Kimber and Osbourne neck and neck, and the final nod, given by Tom Inch, went to James Kimber.
