Ascot United 6 Oxhey Jets 0
Cherry Red Combined Counties North Premier
4th February 2023
Jets were beaten 6-0 at league leaders Ascot, not a thrashing but a learning curve!
Ascot are a class set up top to bottom, facilities superb, all of them and the team is one of the most complete football teams I’ve ever seen at P5 ( step 5 of the pyramid). No weaknesses and on the superb Astro surface they ping the ball around at will.
No critics of any Jets player. It was experienced men against boys and in many ways a credit to long periods of superb battling to hold the score to 6 after conceding an early goal in just 4 minutes.
Unfortunately, two late first-half goals made the contest over, if it was one, at halftime 4-0. An improved second period held things more respectable with again a very late goal to tot up the 6 for the hosts.
I congratulate Ascot on and off the pitch are pure class. No wall banging, no gloating and singing songs showing off and rubbing it in. They acted to a man with dignity.
The match officials were top draw too today in what was a learning experience for the very young Oxhey Jets lads.

Jets man of the match was 16 yr old Henry Dudley. Beyond that it would be unfair to name or shame or praise anyone, all 16 in the squad played and did their best, you can ask no more.
On today’s showing, we will be seeing Ascot in step three in two years.
