Dom Hat-Trick Makes It 5 Wins On the Bounce
Oxhey Jets 4 Woodley United 2
Cherry Red Combined Counties Division One
19th October 2024
It was a sloppy performance, but the points and the run continued as the Jets chalked up their fifth win on the bounce.
It is disappointing that so many changes were needed, with nine players not available for various reasons, some injured and some dubious, it has to be said. However, more youth players got to make their senior football debuts. Lucio Cappuccini and Henry Atkinson came on in the second half as the young Jets side got even younger, and they can pat themselves on the back for a job well done.
Woodley is not having a great start to the season, and their long trip looked in trouble as the morning deluge set in, but good work by Graham O’Brien got the game on, and the young patchwork side was to get their chance.
Returning skipper, Harry Brady supplied the ball for George Rice to muscle two defenders aside to calmly slot 1-0 (16 mins)
Jets dominated the possession but, like a repeat record, we say but, failed to finish the job until, on the stroke of the break, George Rice went scorer to supplier to slip Dom Mosca in to notch Jets second and give some breathing space (45min)
Praise was not abundant, as the Jets managers were disappointed at the pace of the game and the relaxed manner, so they threw on an extra attacker, Michael Kelly, at the break.
Jets kept the possession, but it was fifteen minutes until Dom Mosca added his second 3-0 (60 min)
Jets got more sloppy now, thinking it was over, and it wasn’t with all the bench thrown on; Woodley seized on the moment, and Matteo Giacobbe pulled one back (80 min)
The joy was as short-lived as the beat of the drum Corp behind the goal. Having been denied one goal appeal, Dom Mosca completed his Hat trick 4-1 (83 min) to restore a three-goal advantage.
The frenzy continued as Jets got untidy, and Matteo Giacobbe got his second from way out for 4-2 (85 min)
It was the points for Jets, but they were a little sloppy in the performance.
The man of the match was discussed. George Rice scored a goal and assisted, but the unanimous choice was another Hatty for Dom Mosca.
