Jets Edge Local Derby
Oxhey Jets 3 London Colney 2
Combined Counties Division One
14th October 2023
It was a real local Derby, passion, skill, desire, cards and both teams having spells of dominance. This was a cracker.
Jets started the game at some pace and the lively attack was soon very much on top attacking the LC defence with menace.
On 14 minutes it was first-blood Jets sparked by Dylan HS whose drive into the box was followed by an exquisite 1-2 with Kleyton to round the keeper and slot from a tight angle.
Just four minutes later Jets doubled the lead as provider turned goal scorer, with a spin on the spot to turn his man, Kleyton de Biazze strikes into the bottom corner.
There were bench yellows for the visitors for talking to the assistant and some baffling decisions both ways.
Jets were dominant at this stage, but five minutes of defensive madness spun the game on its head. A dreadful ball led to the skipper being in trouble on the ball and getting a yellow and LC scored a superb free-kick straight from the kick 2-1 (35 minutes).
Five minutes later having unluckily hit the bar, Lewis Lavin saved superbly to deny the visitors but Jets back line was ball-watching or snoozing and the rebound was hammered home 2-2 (40 mins)
This rocked Jets back on their heels but right on the stroke of halftime, the excellent Dylan Hickman Singh beat a host of defenders before releasing a thunderbolt into the top corner 3-2 (44 min) and a lead at the break for Jets.
The second half was full of varying opinions as both sides struggled with the decisions to be polite and it led to a red card for the visitor’s bench.
Jets went into the shell strangely and it was the visitors dominating possession, more than once Lewis Lavin’s composure was needed in goal, but on the counter Jets were dangerous and it looked like Kleyton had added another but went agonisingly past the post.
Jets held out, a little luckily some will feel, if I was Colney I’d be disappointed getting nothing, but as Jets, I’d say we’d have lost that last season, but this team has more about it. It was good points in a very competitive battle.
The Jets man of the match had different angles. Bubbling and beaming was Danny Fowler who came from London Colney recently and was a real pain in the rear for his ex-team mates today, getting revenge for some of the Pre-match Friday stick from his mates. Lewis Lavin had to be very sharp and on top of his game to protect Jets. The clear choice, though, was Dylan Hickman Singh for two fantastic goals and an incredible work rate.
21 points for the optimist or halfway to the average safety line of a point a game for the pessimists.
