Jets Mistakes Cost Them Dear
Oxhey Jets 1 Yateley United 3
Combined Counties Division One
16th September 2023
It wasn’t a thriller, but Jets wilted in the heat of the day on Saturday in a result that will bitterly disappoint them against a good confident Yateley United team.

Craig Stephen-Lett clears.
The first half was very even and, with Jets playing slow keep ball and the visitors deep and compact, it was a real cat-and-mouse event that definitely did not raise the pulse rate on the excitement scale.
Jets did have three glorious chances and will kick themselves for the defeat. It’s a young side learning but the chances were there. After a glorious run the simple square roll to the lethal Lewis Putman was the best option, not go for glory from a tight bye-line effort.

Up and Over.
Then, right on the half-time whistle, a good save denied Putman and the loose ball just waiting for the finish was put high over the crossbar and then the trees and into Middlesex County.

Lewis beaten here, but the KO was to come later.
The second half was not as good for Jets and glaring mistakes put them 0-2 down, although the first was a cracking finish to be absolutely fair here.

Putman scores for 1-2 and game on.
Jets made changes and things looked on the up when substitute Yuusuf did the perfect low pinpoint to Lewis Putman to slot goal 13 of the season and 1-2 on the day.
It was now game on as Jets went without caution to the wind, but hopes went in a flash of utter madness when keeper Lewis Lavin lashed out and deservedly saw straight red.
Unfortunately, total sympathy for young Harry Knight, just on for his farewell game as off to the joys ? of Nottingham Uni nightlife, had to come off again so Chippy centre half could come off the bench to go in goal.
Jets were unsettled and lost their rhythm and the visitors finished us off seizing on another error. It really was not good enough on the day and Yateley deserved the points.
Jets Carlsberg Man of the Match was easy, young Olly Pope the only nomination.
