Three much-needed points, but wow do Jets know how to make the onlookers worry as chance after chance goes begging, some missed, some good saves and dogged defending but the ruthless touch in front of goal is much needed by Jets.
George Rice breaks through but the keeper saves
In the low table zone match it was a good display by two young sides both trying to play good football but in the first half Jets dominated the first chance falling to Rice who shot at the keeper.
Owen Ayres beats the keeper but it’s cleared off the line
Ayres beat the keeper but was denied by the defender as Jets pushed forward with chances coming and going to all the front runners and at halftime there was nothing to show for a fully dominant display.
The second half was much the same early on, with Ayres bolt-on with the first attack but got stuck between notch and a sideways ball to the screaming and demanding Elliot, and neither happened.
Lucky escape late on for Jets
It was press press press for Jets, with the London keeper doing well denying them. Jets then almost went behind as Kimber slipped over and presented the visitors with a golden chance, but it was blazed high over the bar.
It was clear the visitors gained confidence from this, and three excellent chances were opened and missed that would have rocked Jets as in the previous league home defeat against PFC Victoria.
Owen Ayres (left) puts Jets into the leadOwen’s shot nestles in the back of the net.Time to celebrate the late breakthrough
Two major substitutions were made to toughen Jets up, and it paid off perfectly as TJ powered down the line and his powerful cross evaded every defender and in came Owen Ayres to rocket home at the back post for what was to be the much-deserved winner. 1-0 (85 mins).
The birthday boy script doesn’t go quite to plan as Olly Pope shoots over the bar.
The visitors rallied and Jets countered, and a chance fell to Birthday boy Olly Pope that was clear dead centre of the goal to seal the game, but the party pooper hit high over the bar, but luckily for Jets, the defence held strong, and the points were bagged with a clean sheet.
The Carlsberg Jets Man of the match was contested. Player of the Month Kimber was in there, and both defenders, Nugs and Archie Sykes did very well, but the nod went to one of the youngest players on the pitch, Patrick Brander, for his first senior Man of the Match award. Pity he is too young to have the beer ???? so it is our first alcohol-free Man of the Match award of the season.

Saturday Treble!
These are the Saturdays we like.
Added to the first team win, it was the first week of the Herts County League season and both our sides got off to a winning start with big wins (and clean sheets), the “A” team winning 4-0 and the Development team winning 3-0.
