Jets Take A Mauling
London Lions 5 Oxhey Jets 0
Cherry Red Combined Counties Premier North
20th August 2022
Unfortunately for out-of-form Jets, they had to travel to the in-form league leaders London Lions and the result ran true to form as Jets were hit 5-0 on probably the best pitch the team will play on in grassroots football. The carpet of a pitch was perfect for any would-be team or player to show his worth on and early indications were that Jets could do well but there is a clear lack of confidence and understanding and self-doubts set in fairly rapidly as things start to go wrong.
The side, again reshuffled hoping to end this dismal run of defeats since the turn of the year, showed spirit and made chances but we’re not taking them, even failing from the penalty spot as we search for something to turn the form books.
Jets fell behind following a defensive spill and the Lions sensed the heads dropping early and the second following a superb ball down the right leaving Jets’ best player stranded upfield leaving a 3:2 in the box chance and it was a case of who rather than if it was to be converted.
Jets did rally and three glorious chances came and were missed and really the heads were down and no half-time telling off could or was to motivate the team.
Changes were made for various reasons but the Lions started to run away with it and the 5-0 scoreline was about right although it was hard to understand the “0” on chances made.
Jets losing run is taking its toll. Belief and confidence are low so something special or different needs to be tried to change the run. It has to be said Jets are a very, very young team and they need a big lift or a pure lucky break, anything to get something going again.
Man of the match for Jets by a country mile was Deago Dubar-Bonnie.
