Colliers Wood 2 Oxhey Jets 2 (Jets win 5-4 on pens)
Cherry Red Combined Counties Premier Challenge Cup
25th September 2024
Jets made the arduous trip to Colliers Wood FC for the second time in a week, having lost to Westside on Saturday, this time to play Colliers Wood themselves in the Combined Counties Premier Cup.
David Lopes (No 9) gives Jets an early lead.
In a repeat of Saturday’s game, Jets played a super first half and built a 2-0 lead. David Lopes got Jets off to a great start, finishing off a sweeping move in the 5th minute.
Smart finish from George Rice from a super Patrick Brander cross. 2-0
George Rice made it two on 25 minutes. Patrick Brander won the ball, ran and squared it for George to hit home and put Jets into a deserved 2-0 lead.
At halftime, the question was whether Jets could build on this start or if the second-half collapse would happen again.
It all looked okay early on, but after a deflected own goal on 59 minutes put Colliers Wood back in the game, the Jets looked shaken again.
Jets, though, could have won the game in the final ten minutes, having three good one-on-ones with the keeper, but the finish was not there.
Almost inevitably Jets paid the price for their misses as Colliers Wood found an equaliser in the 89th minute.
To Jets’ credit, though, they did not fold this time. With the game going to penalties, they stepped up to hit five perfect goals, which gave Jets the win. Colliers Wood shot their third penalty over the bar.
Jets’ successful penalty takers were Joe Reade, George Rice, TJ, Andre Lopes and, with the decisive fifth penalty, Dom Mosca.
The Carlsberg Jets Man of the Match went to Patrick Brander for an outstanding game.
