Crazy Eight Goal Shootout Ends All Square
Oxhey Jets 4 Brook House 4
Cherry Red Combined Counties Division OneĀ
1st March 2025
There have been goals galore in the last few meetings between these two teams, but this time, the Jets joined in as the see-saw match produced an eight-goal spectacle for the supporters. Points dropped, a point gained, good point, two dropped, happy, angry !!! All of these were expressed post-match.
Jets took off like a flyer with some excellent football and quickly got on top against a side looking to stretch their wins run to seven, George Rice attacked at speed from wide, and cooly slotted 1-0 (6mins)
Jets took off like a flyer with some excellent football and quickly got on top against a side looking to stretch their wins run to seven, George Rice attacked at speed from wide, and cooly slotted 1-0 (6mins)
Jets had the upper hand and were causing problems on both sides from wide and should have had a penalty when Rice was taken down. Still, Jets got the rewards with a stunning goal by Owen Ayres, bending an incredible goal around the defenders and keeper 2-0 (40 min).
Brook House responded and came at Jets and were furious not to get a penalty, but a few minutes later, it was Jets furiously reacting to a BH penalty that was converted 2-1 by Trey Pender-Brown (45 min). 2-1 HT.
Jets’ notorious slow starters did it again, and in a flash, it was 2-2 as Jets’ wobbly defence was all at sea as Tray Pender-Brown slotted (48 min )
Now it was an end-to-end match with the opponents getting on top, and it was no real surprise when the visitors again exposed today’s shaky defensive performance to go in front as four defenders in a group bundle watched as Trey Pender Brown completed his hat-trick and lead 2-3 (70 min).
Jets showed real heart now, and the young side really rallied, not folded, and streamed forward. Again, the ref had a decision to make as Jets top scorer Dom Mosca broke clear and was upended, and the ref went straight to the spot. More drama as the keeper saved with his feet, and with him grounded and the ball rolling along the line, the chase was on, and Dom Mosca was there first to prod home 3-3 (72 min)
Jets were now bubbling, and it was Man of the Match Owen Ayres who notched again, this time a perfect corner from Lewis Davis was headed home (4-3 75min)
Jets could have gone clear as George Rice went through but held his shot, and the delay was critical, allowing the defender to recover and join the keeper to deny between them.
This was a battle royal, and as the game crept into stoppage time, very poor defending again caught the Jets, and Mark Richards slotted 4-4 (90+1)
In the remaining time, I admit to praying for the whistle as BH, chasing a playoff spot, were flying at Jets as we were hanging on, but we got the point in a hell of a game.
There were so many reactions, and everyone needed time to decide if they were happy with the point !!
Man of the match Rice and Kelly were really on it in the first half and caused problems for the visitors in this swinging match, but the clear decision with two goals, one stunner went to the re-emerging Owen Ayres.
