Oxhey Jets 2 Hillingdon Borough 3
20th August 2024
Combined Counties Division One
Another defeat but a much more promising performance and effort by the young Jets side.
Unfortunately, errors are costly and the price is paid.
Jets went a goal down after just four minutes when a goalkeeper clearance was shut down and deflected into the net by Renzo Alves.
Jets did not fold and very much went on the attack and a superb through ball by Luke Nugent played in Dom Mosca who finished well (20 min)
Jets took the lead when another excellent pass was played into Dom Mosca again and the result was the same perfect execution 2-1 Jets (33 min)
It was a feisty match and stretched the officials in sorting out fact from fiction, but a real battle and the score favoured Jets at the break.
The second period again was competitive but favoured the visitors a little, a mistake led to a corner and poor defending led to Clayton Afonso side-footing the ball in for the equaliser 2-2 (57 min)
The visitors took the upper hand as Jets tired and, unfortunately, injuries led to withdrawals.
As a draw looked likely, a hair-brain moment free-kick on the edge of the box and Denerson Moreira’s blistering shot, despite a two-hand attempted save by the keeper, had the power to carry into the net for the winner (83 min)
Jets pushed for the point but David Lopes was given a second yellow for a challenge on the keeper as Jets pushed forward and reduced Jets to ten men and inevitable defeat.
A big improvement but still defensive issues to sort out.
Man of the match was the outstanding all-around performance by “Nugs” Luke Nugent.
