Combined Counties Division One
Jets bounced back from Saturday’s loss with an excellent win Wednesday night, away against a useful Westside team who had beaten London Colney 3-1 away in their last match.
Jets started well and had two good early chances before getting their reward when Archie James was quick to the ball and shot Jets into the lead in the 4th minute.
The hosts, though, showed their quality and a fast break and good finish undid Jets, and it was all square at 1-1 after 11 minutes.
Jets maintained their composure and looked very much on top for the rest of the first half despite playing up the slope.
Jets retook the lead in the 41st minute. A quick free-kick was played down the line to Archie Sykes, who cut it back to James Barnett, who was proving a handful for the Westside defence, and he made no mistake with his finish. 1-2 Jets.
Westside came at Jets in the second half in what was a very open match. Pre-match in their Twitter, Westside had said we never have a 0-0 at home, and you can see why with their focus on attack. Jets still had good counter chances of their own in an entertaining game.
Westside had two major chances at the end and will be disappointed to not make at least one of them count. Jets, though, will feel that their resilience and excellent first half edged the match for them.
Jets Man of the Match was Archie James for his early goal and his industrious workrate throughout.
