Gutted!!
Reading City 1 Oxhey Jets 0

It was heartbreak in stoppage time for Jets at second place Reading City on Saturday. Jets fell at the Boundary to a late goal against their now hosts, but Lady Luck was to be more cruel this time as a header deep into stoppage time denied a Jets side battling for their lives at the bottom of the table.
Jets were dealt blow after blow Saturday, losing the wise Spencer Bellotti to injury after just six minutes and then the integral skipper Tommy Kennard just five minutes later.
Jets battled down the hatches and took everything thrown at them just like they did second half at NGU, but further injuries to Owen Ayres and Ben Delicata in the second half really dented Jets hopes.
The positives were the tremendous form and saves again made by Lewis Lavin and what a honour for Jack James, just two days after his 17th birthday, taking the skipper’s armband at a step 5 club, and that’s a tribute to the belief and support in youth shown by the staff of Tom Inch and Dave Barnes.
For Jets the problem is with today’s four injuries joining Sean Giordmaina on the injury list, the depleted squad has to carry the torch for the next few weeks.
Today’s man of the match was always going to a defender as that’s pretty much what Jets did for the match, and Dan Naylor, Ben Delicata and Sam Scott took the battering most along with Lewis Lavin.
The Carlsberg man of the match for Jets went to Sam Scott for an almost faultless performance.
Heartbreak for Jets today, but nothing but pride in these youngsters for effort and, with three difficult away games in a week, had we been offered four points and a single goal defeat at the second place side we’d have bitten their hands off for the deal.
I’ve said many times and I say again, the job Tom and Dave are doing is fantastic and from the ashes of the last couple of years such promising shoots are showing, this is not a short term appointment, it’s the long term future.
