Jets Wasteful But Showing Progress
Oxhey Jets 1 Windsor 2

Jets just keep improving in many ways except the one thing that is needed, and that is the result.
The last two defeats against sides near Jets whilst not terminal are hurtful, and what makes it worse is the woeful finishing that is costing us badly. Even the Windsor manager put on record that the reason they got the win was that Jets “were wasteful in front of goal” a comment perfectly summing up the day.
Jets played the best they have played since probably last Christmas which was when we started handing out easy presents, but in the first half with four howling missed chances they only had one goal to show for it scored by Sean Giordmaina’s drive.
Then, right on cue, sloppiness in first-half stoppage time was to cost us as a free-kick given away after inexplicably trying to overplay in the wrong areas was punished fully with the perfect free-kick into the top corner and the immediate end of half whistle. Half time 1-1.
The second half was ridiculous. After multiple chances to take the lead with one-on-ones not taken and one hit over the bar without the goalkeeper in his goal, Jets paid the price when Rattrey, who had been warned at the break about his first touch being costly, did the same again and was robbed on the edge of the box for a fine strike to clinch the points.
Jets continued to push to save a point and Jack Thompson’s perfect cross was met superbly by Giordmaina’s head but the underside of the bar denied a textbook goal. Jets, on inspection of their Veo, found eight bolt-on chances, not half chances but real bolt-on situations that no one at this level should miss. No team can deservedly be at this level still if they miss them week in week out, that’s a simple fact, and for the last two games Jets are guilty of just that.
The break-a-game hoodoo continued with this time Mr Reliable Tom Inch looks to have broken ribs bringing this season’s “various breaks” since September to seven players, we’ve never experienced such a run. The insurance company must dread opening our Christmas card thinking it’s another claim. ??
Sean Giordmaina scored and had a superb first 45, and Spencer Bellotti was again excellent in defence and late on thrown into the attack, but today it was a self inflicted defeat.
Now the positives. Six changes and more to follow and some half-hearted performances becoming evident why on Sunday. Jets, though, are in safe hands with people who have played and love the club and will rebuild it without any pressure on jobs from the club.
Unfortunately, three yellows for Jets. Vass Manderville returned from a double red ban to pick up another yellow and yet another ban. Also debut yellows for Nugent and James. Apart from the fact that across the pitch today we could not hit a barn door with it closed, the rest of the game plan was stronger and, by a mile, the best we have seen for a long time.
Jets recovery is a work in progress. We take what comes, but we won’t lose our heads or be divided.
