Oxhey Jets 4 Holmer Green 0
Cherry Red Combined Counties Division One
12th November 2024
Jets continued their fine run of form, extending the unbeaten run to ten with a 4-0 win against sixth-place Holmer Green.
This was a test for Jets, who were beaten 1-3 at Holmer early in the season. Jets had a nightmare start, and the visitors were now on the edge of the playoffs as the Jets tried to hunt down the teams above.
The game was another excellent game with two sides playing good football, again both sides missing numerous chances before young Patrick Brander ran at the defence and his shot looked bound for the side netting but nestled inside the post 1-0 (29 min)
Jets went up a gear, and again, it was George Rice who was causing problems, hassling, and shutting down the visitors. Rice himself, going clear on goal, was calculatedly tripped to earn a straight Red for Holmers Anthony Tyson.
Jets smelt blood and went for the advantage. In stoppage time, George Rice latched onto a through ball to slot calmly between the defenders, 2-0 ( 45+1), to give the Jets a feel-good factor at the break.
Jets came out of the gates fast and went immediately on the attack, and from inside the area, Dom Mosca kept up his fine scoring run, making it 3-0 (47 min)
In fairness to Holmer, they kept going, and still, the game was end-to-end high quality. Then came the final blow as “One Minute Nugs” came on !! Following his unwanted record of the quickest yellow card on Saturday when he was cautioned after approximately 35 seconds, this time in less than one minute after coming on, he got the touch on the ball, taking it over the line for 4-0 (75 mins) Jets. However, he did have to virtually push the Jets players out of the way to ensure he was on the scoresheet.
The game stayed competitive, and Holmer tried hard to ruin the Jets’ clean sheet. An absolute flyer of a save in the final few minutes protected that record. Holmer knew it would not be for them tonight, as Jets were in a mean mood.
The Carlsberg Man of the Match award reflects a hard end-to-end game. It was a big win, but a defender took the award. James Kimber was faultless, and right in the hunt again was George Rice, who scored the goal and earned the Red card for the defender. However, the deserved nod went to full-back Archie Sykes for an all-around excellent match.
