Five Star Jets Performance
London Colney 0 Oxhey Jets 5
23rd December 2023
Combined Counties Division One
Jets romped into Christmas with their biggest away win since March 2013 when they mirrored that score 0-5 this time in a local Derby against fellow ex-SSML team London Colney (previous win 2013 London Tigers 0 Jets 5).
Pre-Christmas changes forced Jets to shuffle but it didn’t show as after a slow start Jets put on a confident performance. Jets started on the attack but after very early promise it was the hosts doing all the pushing as jets seemed to have trouble keeping their feet and the padding was suspect.
The early let-off was for jets as a double chance somehow stayed out, the second brought off the line by Chippy to hold at 0-0 and the home bench becoming jittery at missed opportunities.

James Barnett brought down in the penalty area.

Good penalty from Archie James 0-1 Jets
Take your chances or the game can swing, and that it did as Jets attacked at speed, and James Barnett was brought down and Archie James converted from the spot 0-1. (26 min)

Archie James (No. 8) makes it 2-0

Celebrations.
Now it was Jets doing the pushing with the slope and Archie James nudged himself one in front of Lewis Putman in the season’s goal chart with a drive inside the box beating the keeper after good work from James Barnett plays in Dylan who cuts back superbly for Archie to notch 0-2 (38 mins)

Dylan’s Dipper 0-3 Jets
LC always play the slope second half when they can and do so well, so Jets waited patiently and then went for the effective killer blow, and what a goal it was as Dylan Hickman Singh hit a plumb, a dipper that beat the keeper all ends up 3-0 (61 mins) and a Xmas cracker for Dylan just like he got in the home match against LC.

Very happy return to his former club for Danny Long Ball.
Colney looked beat and Jets kept going Danny Fowler playing well against his old club doing well and enjoying the assist as James Barnett thought he’d scored at the near post, but Jets TV video and producer Dave Mason was needed to clear up the goal that was actually put home by Owen Ayres at the far post 0-4 (67 min).

Owen Ayres gets the ball over the line after James Barnett’s shot to make it 0-4 Jets.

Long drive from James Barnett makes it 0-5 Jets.
Jets were not finished and good work on his debut joining Jets from Spartans youth just last night, slipped in James Barnett to hammer home a long-range and well-deserved goal, 0-5 (76 min)

Bit early for a shirt swap with Archie who had another good game.
Excellent performance from Jets to go into Christmas, if Carlsberg did pre-Christmas as we have to say, this was it.
Man of the match went to the excellent James Barnett, with multiple others putting on good performances but a head and shoulders award for James.
Finally a big praise for the three officials, after the last two matches an outstanding referee restored my faith in the Combo Counties officials.
A big get-well to Jameel who has had a dreadful accident at work cutting through the tendons in his hand and needed an immediate operation, we wish him well for a speedy recovery.
