Windsor 3 Oxhey Jets 4
Cherry Red Combined Counties Division One
17th January 2025
The great escape, the comeback of the season. All descriptions can be used for the incredible comeback by Jets in the last six minutes to turn a 3-1 defeat into a 3-4 win at a good Windsor Friday night match.
The six-minute hero was player of the month Dom Mosca, who came on as a substitute to score the six-minute hat trick and set off wild celebrations on and off the pitch.
Jets had early chances, but the tight Windsor defence saw them off, and former Jets academy player Avco opened the Jets flank and cut to get the shot that was deflected home to put the hosts in front. Avtandili Akhsiashvili (22 mins).
Owen Ayres levels it at 1-1
Windsor now had the upper hand, but Jets kept countering, and from a cross from Elliott Harris, Jets pulled level from an excellent Owen Ayres header at the near post 1-1 (37 mins).
Jets were wobbling but level and held on till the break, but by now, minus joint boss Dave Barnes sent off for a comment somebody else said by the dramatic official who told more versions of the incident than can be remembered to cover his mistakes.
Half time 1-1
The Jets started much as they finished and only showed a rare glimpse of their recent form, but more controversy when the Jets lost possession after a clear foul, Windsor bolted forward and scored 2-1. Troy Williams (49′). The official incensed the jets yet again, and the Lino said I saw it, but the ref was closer. Don’t help your mood !!
Windsor all but sealed the match when Samuel Johnstone Healey (60′)with a good goal, and the jets looked floored and to be continuing their dreadful away form; it was made worse by Owen Ayres putting the Jets down to ten men sitting out a sin bin.
The remaining manager, Tom Inch, changed everything, throwing on all five subs, and boy, how it worked. Patrick Brander was now teasing one wing, and this ignited George Rice swopping to the other, and Dom was in the hump to prove he wanted to start, and Jets took the game by the throat.
Penalty! Patrick Brander brought down in the area.Dom Mosca gets Jets back in it on 84 mins.
A through ball by Rice to Brander saw the youngster in on goal but upended from behind, and Dom Mosca converted the spot kick 3-2 ( 84 min)
Dom Mosca hammers it home and it’s 3-3
Jets sensed a chance and streamed forward, and again it was Rice going direct who found Dom Mosca to chip the keeper 3-3 (86 min) scenes broke out as Jets celebrated.
Danny becomes our No 1 Cheerleader!Unbelievable comeback. Dom Mosca completes a 6 minute hat-trick!Go Dom!!
Still, it was not over as right on 90 minutes, one of the youngest players on the pitch, Henry Atkinson, saved Jet’s bacon with an incredible interception to stop Windsor from going clear. Henry controlled it and immediately sent it through to Dom Mosca. Dom got his shirt pulled back by his shirt, but the ref played a great advantage, and Dom pulled himself clear to blast the winner into the net and sent Jets wild on and off the pitch.
It was an incredible game and fightback, but I wish we would not do that for our hearts’ sake!!
Jets go wild!
The Carlsberg Man Of The Match was not the inspirational substitutions nor the hat trick hero. The fully deserved award went to young Henry Atkinson, who was called into the reshuffled back line along with the recalled Danny Fowler and played a faultless match. He joyfully accepted his award, saying, “I couldn’t have done it without you lads!”
