Oxhey Jets 2 Langley 0
Cherry Red Combined Counties Division One
15th February 2025
A good win on a dreadful pitch was the reward for a Jets team that gets younger and younger but goes up and up in ability and potential.
A mess of a pitch after the impacts of playing after Storm Eowyn.
Unfortunately for such a skilful side, the mudlark of a pitch we are now stuck with, thanks to one game played during Storm Eowyn, is a significant restriction for this skilful but very young side.
Excellent performance from Brian McGovern.
With the illness to TJ it got younger with an excellent start from Brian McGovern and a second-half debut from another teenager signed from Belstone Frankie Pass.
Give Youth a Chance is the rebuild theory from managers Tom Inch & Dave Barnes. Despite inconsistent performances, the willingness to learn and improve is impressive.
For the second match running, it was a good performance for their young Guns, unfortunately, made more challenging by the “Difficult pitch”, especially for the two wide boys Brander and Rice.
George Rice 1-0
These two opened Langley up with an early goal when Patrick Brander delivered to Owen Ayres, who was denied by an excellent save. Still, the ball went wide to George Rice, who controlled, cut in and coolly slotted 1-0 (5 mins).
Jets were lifted, and the keeper denied top scorer Dominic Mosca from making it 2-0.
Henry Ford had to be alert in goal to maintain Jets lead.
Langley responded and had three good openings. Now, Jets keeper Henry Ford was equally confident to block out and hold Jets advantage.
Unfortunately, it was a hospital trip for Lewis Davis.
Jets had the upper hand, but it was a dogged battle by two sides now separated by just a point in a relative mid-table void. However, for Jets players, there are still three cups to play for places in.
Dom Mosca brought down for a pen.Dom converts the penalty.
The second half slightly edged the Jets way possession-wise. After a defensive mistake from the Langley defence from Henry Atkinson’s cutting ball, it was Jets top scorer Dominic Mosca who was now staring the goalkeeper in the eyes, brought down, got up, slotted and a yellow for the keeper, a thoroughly punished error! 2-0 (48 mins)
Frankie Pass – Another young teenage addition.
Jets didn’t take their foot off the accelerator today, and a very competent performance saw the game out and a debut for another teenager as new signing Frankie Pass came in for his first taste of Jets football.
Owen Ayres, heading off the line here, had an excellent game.
Man of the match saw two comments. Owen Ayres was again described as excellent, but the unanimous decision went to Brian McGovern, who grabbed his chance with both hands and played an absolutely superb match.
