Jets Suffer Hangover Blues

Jets crashed to another league defeat to Egham but there was hope and disappointment in the defeat.
Manager Kevin Christou played loyal to the side that got the excellent FA Vase win last week making just one change. Deago Dunbar-Bonnie was brought back to replace the not available Billy Healey, but otherwise no recalls from the mass unavailable list from the Bank Holiday weekend.
Unfortunately his loyalty was not rewarded as it was clear from the meet time, that some were not up to or fit for the tough match looking tired and talking about the Friday night out. Not impressed, and that was mirrored by the first half performance.
Jets were not at the races, there was a couple of rare chances, but Jets spent most of the half defending hard as the visitors dominated, with only three top saves by GK Karl Beaumont, one a superb finger tipper keeping Jets in the match.
It was, though, no surprise when the bad tempered match went the way of the visitors, the first goal taking a rather lucky deflection off a defender to dip it over the keeper but no luck with the well worked second to lead 0-2 at the break.
The staff did not hang around with the changes, but it was a different Jets second half. The pushing was now coming from Jets, but as the bad feeling off the pitch eased, the temperature on the pitch definitely went up, it’s safe to say no Christmas card lists were extended today !!!
Sam Cahill was brought down in the area and Deago Dundalk Bonnie converted to put Jets back in it. To be fair, Jets went for it with subs Riccardo Adewuyi and Sean Giordmaina adding a lot of energy to the attack.
I still can’t work out how centre of the goal, six yards out, Riccardo didn’t net the equaliser, but his shot beat the keeper and hit the inside of the post and deflected across the goal but stayed out.
Jets pushed and had a soft penalty appeal turned down on Giordmaina, and Riccardo had another good chance but hesitation and the keeper was on it.
As always, in these chase situations you are open to the spring counter attack and Jets fell to that. Egham broke and got a free kick just outside the area and, with the keeper still organising his wall, an excellent strike clinched the match.
Strangely, with 9 substitutions in the second half, three injuries needing treatment and four cautions and the obvious running the clock down we’d all do winning away, only one minute twenty seconds was added on. The official said “I stopped it because it was getting out of hand” which about summed up his performance, but his performance was not to blame for the disrespectful readiness for todays match from some.
Man of the match went to Karl Beaumont in Jets goal.
An unpleasant day on the sidelines, definitely no friends made.
