JETS TEAMWORK EARNS THE WIN

Jets earned their first three-point win in a very tight, hard-earned battle against a very good Colliers Wood team at the Boundary on a blistering, sun-scorched pitch.
The match was a tough, intense battle that neither team would give up on, so a decent, very noisy crowd boosted by the travelling QPR clan, along with the drum-beating Ultras, focused on the away team’s manager ( a member of the QPR clan!!)
Jets made changes after the lacklustre defeat midweek, and they took off like a flyer today, with far more attacking intent, and with just nine minutes gone, got a penalty after Lewis Davis was brought down, and up stepped Paulie Portes-Schuster to convert 1-0 (9 mins).
A series of free kicks all around the area followed as Jets increased the pressure but led to no further chances. Still, Woods pushed back strongly and were excellent from set pieces, and it looked like they were level when an excellent corner was headed home, but the celebrations were cut very short when an early raised flag indicated the ball had curled back into play after going out of play.
Woods had a thunder shot come back off the post and were twice denied by superb saves by Lewis Lavin in goal. The rest of the half was an end-to-end battle, Woods much better from set pieces but Jets very good on open play.
The second half started fast, and the hosts pressed from the off, and it was no surprise when the equaliser came on fifty-four minutes after a shot by Moussa Traore literally hugged the post to find the net 1-1 (54 mins)
Would Jets fold? Well, no, it took just one minute from Woods’ goal for Jets to hit the net, an executioner’s cutting ball picked up, but Lewis Davis sprinted clear to confidently slip the ball past the keeper 2-1 ( 55 mins)
The game was to be played out at a breathtaking pace, Jets attacking at speed but unable to extend their lead mainly due to the horrific final passing in the last third something big to sort out for the coaches- but, and it’s a big but, the battling back to win and defend a mistake was exceptional. Hence, Jets hung on, and as the elongated half went over the three-digit mark, Woods looked to have a point but a miss of the season rather than the match as a clean through forward with just Lavin and the whole goal becoming managed to shoot so wide the corner flag was in more danger and the win was Jets. It was very, very hard-earned, with all sixteen players playing their part, and the excellent atmosphere in the squad was evident at the whistle.
The Carlsberg Man of the match went to Lewis Davis, who made a big difference to the team with an incredible work rate, brought down for the penalty then notched the winner, but again special mention for skipper Nugs who was again faultless.
Reshuffled and holidays, but a big game came good also for young Oliver Grieves, who did very well defending some excellent set plays by the visitors.
