Jets Salvage A Late Draw
Oxhey Jets 2 Staines & Lammas 2
Cherry Red Combined Counties Division One
29th November 2025
Jets were fortunate to salvage a point from second-bottom Staines Lammas after a bright start, but ended up totally indebted to goal keeper Lewis Lavin, who, at 1-2 down, pulled off a penalty and double save to keep Jets in the contest.
Jets first half was solid and well on top, except for the same problem we report on time and time again, we make nothing of the possession and chances and fail to make or take goal openings.

Jamie Doolan (No. 8) fires Jets into the lead
Jets turned their upper hand into a lead again, Jamie Doolan showed the way with a drive from the edge of the box. 1-0 (24 min)
Jets continued to dominate, and chances came, not many in honest reflection. Still, they went again, and yet again the price was paid as deep into stoppage time the ball bounced off a visitor’s back into the net, and, like he then remembered, there should be a break before the two halves, not just play straight through, the referee blew half time. 1-1 Joe McBride 45+4
In the second half, you sensed the flow change as Jets passed, and the play got sloppy, and Jets failed to release the ball, which was more frustrating to the crowd. It was a total surprise when, from a set piece, Jets were daydreaming, and Luca Clark slotted the visitors into the lead. 1-2 (73 min).

Lewis Lavin saves the penalty

Lewis follows up and saves from the rebound.
It got worse for Jets when the referee pointed to the spot, not a clue why, I’m not even sure the unpredictable official would know why, but enter the hero of the day when Lewis Lavin made a full-length save, then bravely went to feet to double save from the rebound attempts to keep Jets in the game.

Owen Ayres (far right) sends a brilliant header across goal into the far corner of the net for a late equaliser.
So with ten to play, it became all Jets. First big chance falling to Paulie Portes Schuster, who blazed a good chance high over the bar, but in added time, an absolutely superb header by Owen Ayres went across the goal and finished in the far corner of the net. 2-2 (90+4)
Still, the game went on, and it looked like a winner for Jets as Owen Ayres teed up to head home, but a nudge in the back was just enough to put him under the ball and head over, and the chances of the match official seeing anything so obvious were minimal, and it ended a point each.
Yes Jets are young, but age does not roll six-yard passes straight to the opposition. The facts are that Jets need to up their game to their capabilities and stop being so casual and lacklustre.

The man of the match was shared between Jamie Doolan and Leo Wolpert.
