Armitt hat-trick topples leaders

Jets 4 Stony Stratford 1

Spartan Reserves Division One
28th November 2009

A league fixture in which the Jets played hosts to Stony Stratford, leader’s of the division, making their first visit to the Boundary Stadium.

From the whistle the ball was made available for Lee Armitt to make an unchallenged run on the left, and on entering the Stony Stratford area fire a shot that nearly missed it’s target with the stopwatch showing approximately 54 seconds, clearly making his intention clear for the afternoon.

The very early close call gave the Stony Stratford side an early wake up call, and they made their answer promptly, as in the 6th minute they advanced on the right and a cross into the Jets area was to be collected with space to spare and a low powerful shot was to enter the net to open the score for Stony at 0-1.

The remainder of the half settled down to both sides playing attacking football with chances made, but none converted into goals, therefore leaving the lead at the break in Stony Stratford’s favour.

After a rather calm half time talk, the Jets side made a rejuvenated second half start and pushed forward in their determination to find the early equaliser. It was in the 56th minute that they were to achieve their aim, as a high ball was sent into the Stony Stratford half, which was collected by Lee Armitt who advanced onto goal, and with only the keeper standing in his way was able to lob the ball over the lonely keeper and open his tally for the afternoon and bring the Jets level at 1-1.

The Jets previously mentioned determination continued and in the space of just two minutes, the 58th Lee Armitt was to become the provider as a cross from him into the Stony Stratford area was met by Ian Holdom, who made no mistake by moving the score on to 2-1 for the Jets.

The Stony Stratford defence made great efforts to hold the Jets attacks, but once again, in the 67th minute another run by Lee Armitt entered the Stony Stratford area and the defence, making one too many of an effort felled him inside the area. The prevailing penalty was well struck by Lee Armitt and gave the Jets a 3-1 lead together with his brace.

The Jets attacks were relentless, but some fine saves by the Stony Stratford keeper now made it improbable that the score was to be changed. The time moved on and in the 77th minute, the score was to change as a run on the right by Lee Armitt was to see him make his usual almost impossible shooting position, but once again the ball passed behind the keeper and into the far side of the net, this time giving the Jets a 4-1 lead together with his hat-trick.

Well out of reach of Stony Stratford the game ground out the final minutes with both sides appearing to becoming resigned to the final score line.
