Royston Town and another home league fixture, and what was to be a game to bring the Jets down to earth with a resounding crash after their 12-3 victory just two days previous.
It was startlingly obvious from the start that the Jets were now against a side, which was not going to be easy to break down, as Royston put the defence under pressure from the whistle, but it was the Jets who were first to open the scoring when in the 16th minute Myles Stephenson created a run on the left which brought a cross to Lee Armitt who produced a low shot into the Royston net and give the Jets the lead at 1-0.
As has been the case in so many Jets fixtures, once ahead they take their foot off and are venerable to the equalizer, and that was the said case when in the 21st minute a Royston attack entered the Jets area and after the defence had made several attempts to clear, but failed, allowing space for Royston to take advantage and drive the ball into the unguarded Jets goal and bring them level at 1-1
Both sides created chances and it was the Jets who produced most on target, but some fine saves by the Royston keeper were to keep the score level for some time. With the break looming and honours even, it was once again Lee Armitt who was to produce yet another glimmer of hope for the Jets when in the 41st minute he was to collect the ball in the centre, take on several players before sending a powerful drive into the Royston goal and the Jets arrived at the break ahead at 2-1.
The second half saw Royston enjoying their best spell of the game as they appeared to be first in most of the play and the Jets best chance of adding to their lead came in the 67th minute when they were awarded a corner on the right which was well struck by Chris Killer and was just tipped over the bar by the keeper. The prevailing corner was to enter a crowded goal area, and after some desperate defending was to see a shot headed clear off the line and brought clear by the defenders.
Royston continued to give the Jets a hard time as they pressed forward, and in the
75th minute they were to be rewarded when once again the Jets defence fell victim to the attack and Royston found the net to bring them level once again at 2-2.
With Jets having held the lead for so long the equalizer was to dampen their spirits as time was running out for a three points ending, but it was looking promising for one point to be salvaged as the clock reached the 87th minute, but there was still time for a Royston push to enter the Jets area and a high lob sent over the keepers head into the net to grasp the three points at 2-3.
