Late Page Goal Earns a Point

Jets 1 London Colney 1

Spartan Reserves Division One
27th October 2009

Mid week fixtures loom once again, and on a gloomy evening the Jets welcome an old adversary to the Boundary Stadium in the form of London Colney, stationed just above the Jets in the division.

This was expected to be a tough game for the Jets and so it proved from the start, as London Colney made their mark by making some determined runs into the Jets area making life very difficult for the Jets defence, but London Colney were put on the back foot on several occasions when Gary Page and Adam Lowton made their presence felt, but once more the Jets finishing was to keep the score sheet clean.

It was the 37th minute when it was London Colney who were to make their perseverence pay off with a run up the centre which sent a low ground hogging shot through a crowd of players and into the Jets net opening the score line at 0-1.

Despite some frantic end-to-end play and chances being made by both sides, there was no addition to the score to the break.

The second half found the Jets with renewed vigour, as they appeared to take control and determined to bring things level. Their efforts were to see the London Colney woodwork punished on two occasions firstly by Ian Holdom and later by Gary Page.

Things looked as gloomy as the evening weather for the Jets as time past, but they continued to test the ex Jets keeper in the London Colney goal, and their play suddenly gave hope of an equaliser. That came in the 83rd minute with a fine run in the centre by Gary Page taking on several players before sending a powerful shot into the London Colney net and giving the Jets the point they deserved. 1-1

The leveller was to give the game seven nail biting, heart stopping minutes as the Jets camped out in the London Colney half and threatening a winning goal at any second, but it was too late for the gutsy performance to pay off, and the referee’s whistle brought a little disappointment for the Jets, but one point was hard worked for.
