Following a sterling performance in the Intermediate cup the Jets now return to the league fixtures with a home game against yet another newcomer to the league, Langford.
The Jets were struggling to make up anything like a full squad, as players were to pull out at the last minute leaving the bench looking sparse indeed. The Jets set about their task in a slow mood as Langford appeared to show most of the form in the opening period as they made good runs into the Jets area, but were to be held each time by a solid defence.
It was in the 27th minute when things were about to change as the Jets attack found a run on the left cross into the Langford area with a man on form waiting to open his account. The player in question was Adam Lowton, who collected the high cross and drove a volley into the Langford net to open the score at 1-0.
The goal brought alive the Jets as they now took command of the game, with some penetrating runs by Adam Lowton and Gary Page, but the score line was to remain until the 42nd minute when once again it was Adam Lowton who pounced on a loose ball and the brace was his and the score 2-0 was reached at the break.
The second half was to start, as did the first with the Jets looking a little scrappy and sitting back on their first half lead. The Langford squad pressed on at regular intervals and made the Jets defence work hard to hold them at bay. As the Langford attacks increased and the Jets defence were under pressure, in the 72nd minute an advancing player was to be brought down in the Jets area, and the resulting converted penalty changing the score to 2-1.
The penalty gave the Jets a wake up call and once again they were alive and playing some good football as the ball moved quickly between players and gave Langford little chance to settle.
Time was passing and it was looking like a close, but successful result for the Jets, but in the 86th minute Adam Lowton was not only to achieve his hat trick and change the score-line to 3-1, but he was to give all those watching the goal of the afternoon, if not the season so far. A high cross was to find him with his back to the Langford net, but a well timed kick over his head found the corner of the net, leaving everyone standing, just gazing in disbelief.
