Once more at home and once more hosts to another league newcomer, Kings Langley, on a very blustery afternoon at Boundary Stadium. Jets looking to maintain their strike rate and build on the new found form.
With the new formula of attack, attack, attack from the start they were soon in full flight from the whistle as they gave Kings Langley no time to settle with pressure being placed on the defence and testing the keeper within the first few minutes. It was in the 10th minute that none other than Gary Page was to make a run into the right corner before turning towards goal, then releasing a shot which appeared to be from an impossible angle which was to soar into the top left corner of the Kings Langley net, and the Jets account was opened 1-0.
Following the opening goal Kings Langley did settle and made things a little more difficult for the Jets to penetrate their defence, but in the 26th minute it was once again Gary Page who was found taking on several players on the right and to be faced with the on coming keeper. A well timed chip over the head of the keeper saw the ball bounce into the Kings Langley net with the keeper only able to gaze over his shoulder as Gary Page found his brace in just seventeen minutes and extended the Jets lead to 2-0.
The remainder of the half gave Kings Langley their brightest period of the game and it was now Steve Duce in the Jets goal who was to be tested, but once again stood up to his task and produced some fine saves. The Jets had chances to extend their lead, but were unfortunate not to find the net with some off form finishing as the break arrived with no change in the score-line.
The whistle starting the second half was still sounding around the ground as in the 45th minute Gary Page broke free on the right and once again found himself faced with the advancing keeper whose attempt to halt the striker was to produce a penalty, which was to also produce a yellow card and the indignity of Gary Page converting the penalty with a powerful drive well out of the keepers reach, providing him with his hat-trick and the addition to the Jets score
3-0.
Just ten minutes were to pass before the Jets were to extend their lead when in the 55th minute the permanent figure of Gary Page on the right was to send a well sighted cross into the centre and find a waiting Owen Deamer delivering a stinging shot into the Kings Langley net and top up the score for the Jets to 4-0.
Both squads found ground to make attacks as the game settled down to its longest period without a change in the score-line. Both ends saw plenty of action and goal mouth scrambles with one report of a goal line clearance by Chris Killer??? The time was passing and both sides appeared to have settled to the 4-0 score as final, but substitutes were made by the Jets which saw Lewis Putman being put into the fray. It was in the 80th minute that a Jets cross was to enter a crowded Kings Langley goal area, the ball was cleared but only to find it’s way out to the waiting boot of Lewis Putman whose piercing shot cut through the crowd of players and finalizing the score at 5-0.
Substitutes used: Matt Deamer and Lewis Putman.
Man of the match: Gary Page
