Heath break the stalemate

Colney Heath 1 Jets 0

Spartan Reserves Division One
13th October 2009

A short mid week trip to old rivals Colney Heath was to produce a blip to the Jets form of the last two fixtures.

Both sides soon settled to some enterprising football, which became end to end with the Jets just holding the edge in the first section with chances being created, but not finding the net. Once again some fine goal keeping from Steve Duce in the Jets net kept the score sheet clean for the first half.

The second half was to replicate the first with what appeared to be a hard fought game by both sides and no sign of anyone disturbing the net. The Jets made substitutions bringing Gary Page on the scene, but the downhill run was against him, as the ball appeared to run away from him as he made several forages into the Colney box. One run through the centre did find the ball enter the Colney net, but some dubious lining found him to be off side.

As the time passed it appeared that honours would be shared, but in the 76th minute Colney broke loose on the right and a well struck volley from the edge of the Jets area was to give Steve Duce no chance as the ball entered the net in the top left corner and set the stage for a fighting last fourteen minutes with the Jets pushing forward in numbers, but all was lost as the whistle sounded with the score standing at 1-0 in favour of Colney.

Substitutes used: Gary Page and Carl Wigg.

Man of the match: Jamie Prouten
