Jets progressed in the FA Vase but were on the rack for the last fifteen minutes of this close to call cup tie.
The two teams only met seven days ago in the FA Cup, with Jets winning 4-1 after Saints had taken the lead, but this time the game was much more even.
The Burys had the ball in the net after just seven minutes but the flag had gone up long before.
Jets had the early pressure but fell behind after 21 minutes. The ball skidded into the box and the Bury forward slotted as Jets waited in vain for the offside flag that never came.
Jets had the possession but seemed to lack commitment on the day and it really was the general feeling that if they pulled the game back it could well be won. The break came with Bury still a goal up.
The second half was much the same until the break finally came, Lewis Putman hunted and chased a lost cause, and chased the final ball down to the Bury ‘keeper. The ‘keeper hesitated and finally lashed the ball away but it caught the outstretched legs of the tireless LEWIS PUTMAN and the ball looped and spun and curled into the net with the keeper chasing back knowing it was lost (56min).
Two minutes later NATHAN ROBERTS hit a 25yard pile driver that rocketed into the net for the winner.
Jets had chances, and Man of the Match Lewis Putman was the ,main reason for the win, with his run, run, run attitude badly needed by the form struggling side.
The luck held out for Jets in the final fifteen minutes as Bury threw all caution to the wind and thew everything including their keeper into the attack. The main luck was a good clean shot that hit both posts and came out, the Jets keeper was more than equal to the rest, and Bury can only blame themselves for some glaring misses.
On refection, in the last fifteen minutes, St Margaretbury would feel hard done by, but if reflected on the 90minutes, it was close to call but about right.
The problem for Jets is the missing now full team and a keeper ruled out with injury, It’s a cruel start to the season, but Jets are still in the F.A. Cup, and the Vase.
Jets will now be at home to Haringey Borough in the next round on Saturday September 18th.
