Great Team Effort Sees Jets Through

Jets 1 Potters Bar Town 0

Herts Senior Cup - 2nd Round
1st December 2009

Jets have had some great nights in the Herts Senior Cup in recent years, and this one was up there with the best of them as Jets beat Potters Bar Town from the Rymans North league.

Stevie Brown came up with the decisive goal that caused Jets biggest upset of the season when they beat Rymans League Potters Bar Town 1-0 in the Hertfordshire Senior Cup at Altham Way.

Jets were without suspended Luke Beardsworth and Ian Bywater, and with Tom Inch and Spencer Bellotti injured, manger Benny Higham had his options cut down, but he was also rocked with the late withdrawals of Tim O'Mara and Chris Harding just before kick off.

This influenced his come and get us tactic that saw Jamie Arthur start as the lone striker as Jets battened down the hatches for this cup battle.

Town had most of the possession in the first twenty minutes, but it was Jets who had the chances as the quick strike tactic twice put Arthur clear on goal, only to be denied by an outstanding goalkeeper, but Jets drew the winning blood when, former ball boy, STEVE BROWN raced from centre half to get on the end of an outstanding defence opener by Arthur to slot a super goal on 35 minutes and send the Jets players wild.

Town came strongly at Jets and tried to get back, and a super shot clattered the post and came back with Duce beaten in the posts. Jets held on to the break, although not pretty, it was effective.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half was always going to be crucial, and Jets held it as Town found no way through, and Arthur was keeping them on there toes having two more saved by the goalkeeper who was outstanding throughout.

At the back everyone was digging in and not a player in the team failed to work until they dropped, with Steve Brown and Ben Chandler sharing the Man of the Match award for Jets.

The thrills and spills were not there, but it was an outstanding workman-like performance and every Jets player can hold their head high with pride at the effort they put in.

Another outstanding cup night in the Jets history.
