Jets spluttered rather than played their way into the semi final of the Charity Shield on a wind swept night at Oxhey.
Jets were rocked in the first minute with a goal against them as the Jets’ defence stood rigid waiting for the offside flag that was correctly not to come.
Jets were dreadful and the final pass was lacking as the players that made the game for them on Saturday struggled on the night, but the turning point was really the last two minutes of the half. Met Police should have scored at the back post with an open goal header that was blazed over and wide, and it would have been the goal that they deserved for all their hard work against the lacklustre Jets, BUT Jets went straight up-field and Lee Inch opened the Bushey defence with a perfect ball and TIM O'MARA, recalled to the team, calmly rounded the keeper to slot 1-1. Then Bushey committed football suicide with a dismissal for dissent.
Jets were happy with the score as it was a let off, but manager Benny Higham went mad at the team in the half-time break. Met Police were conscious in their hearts that they had gifted Jets there chance for the kill, and they took it with relative ease in the second period as now with the gale and the man advantage Jets pulled their game together and went for the match.
JAMIE ARTHUR was put on to replace Karl Bull and within two minutes had gone clear to put Jets 2-1 up, the class was to follow as ANDREW LOMAS cheekily curled the ball into the top of the net while walking away from goal for 3-1 and game safe. Jets put the icing on the cake when TIM O'MARA added his second and Jets fourth as Met Police Bravely dipped out.
It’s ten goals in two games for Jets as they go for all out attack, but everyone knows that two minutes of madness by Met Police Bushey may have changed the game and the night.
Man of the match was Lee Grace for his outstanding work rate when Jets were struggling.
