Jets are only consistent about their inconsistency at the moment, and manager Benny Higham again had the array of football season changes to make for weddings, christenings, holidays and even football injuries, before a reshuffled side could be announced!
Sam Beasant was recalled to goal as Joe Marsh arrived late, Wayne Gladdy was added to partner Luke Beardsworth and Dave Maynard completed the changes in midfield. The early minutes did not point to the display Jets were about to perform, and Kentish Town had the early chance and Sam Beasant had to be on his toes.
After 20 minutes, however, Jets took the lead. Andrew Lomas hit a spectacular curling daisy cutter inch perfect to Wayne Gladdy, who rolled back the years to round the ‘keeper and take an age to gently slide the ball home. 1-0 Jets
Six minutes later and Jets doubled the lead, when Wayne Gladdy again latched onto a Bywater ball and was upended in the area. Luke Beardsworth stepped up to make it 2-0 from the spot.
Jets were buzzing now in the sunshine on a pitch immaculately prepared by Graham O'Brien, and Sam Beasant made a full stretch save before hitting the ball straight up field for Luke Beardsworth to control with ease and slot home 3-0.
Beardsworth is always a threat and twice he thought he had completed his hat trick, but was denied by the flag, whilst at the other end Sam Beasant’s contribution was important on two occasions before the half time whistle as Town tried to catch Jets out on the break. Half time 3-0
Jets started the second half as if in a hurry to finish the tie, and Ingham supplied the first chance to Gladdy who shot over, but Town’s relief was short lived as Dave Maynard hit a perfect cross for Luke Beardsworth to score from 25 yards with a half volley of exceptional quality to get the hat-trick he deserved, the first Jets hat-trick of the season.
Jets now slipped into cruise control and the players with knocks and bruises were replaced, but it was Jets who scored again, this time Ben Chandler getting onto the Bywater pass to finish in style and notch the score up to 5-0.
On 90 minutes Chris Harding, already on a yellow, was lucky not to see red when he pulled back the advancing forward, but Sam Beasant made a full stretch save from the penalty spot and then saved the rebound at the post to keep his goal clean. Town did, however, score a consolation goal six minutes into added time after Jets gave away a sloppy free kick to give them the opportunity. Full Time 5-1 Jets.
Jets looked a classy team today with good performances through the side and it was a job very well done. Man of the Match went to Luke Beardsworth.
