Jets injuries bring them down

Jets 1 Hatfield Town 2

Spartan South Midlands Premier
12th September 2009

The first team crashed to another home defeat against newly promoted Hatfield Town, and the injury crisis deepened even further. Jets were fielding a team with ten first team players not available for selection, a problem that was made worse during the game when duel strikers Wayne Gladdy and Spencer Bellotti were taken off injured along with Karl Bull. This meant that Ian Bywater and Lee Grace had to stay on and do their best with their injury problems as all the subs had been used.

The bright spot of the day was the debut of former Sun Postal player Lee Inch into the team, to bolster a sagging midfield that has been looking out of salts, and Jets started brightly, doing the early attacking and were rewarded when Wayne Gladdy opened the defence with a fine run and Ian Bywater covered the full length of the pitch to blast Jets in-front after just six minutes.

Jets looked to increase their lead with the early attacks but suffered a massive blow in the 16th minutes when young striker Spencer Bellotti fell badly and was left with torn ligaments in his ankle and was carried from the pitch in immense pain. Jets reshuffled and held Hatfield at bay for the rest of the half but Hatfield were in the ascendance.

Lee Inch nearly scored early in the second half, heading just over the bar but a minute later the game turned on its head as Hatfield levelled from close range.

Hatfield took full control of the game and should have won easily but they had to wait until the 73rd minute before getting the deserved winner. The points were gone for Jets but the injury list will worry them more as, on this form, the team badly need players fit and well and back in the first team before the lack of points starts to become a major problem.
