Jets earn the Points

Haringey Borough 1 Jets 2

Spartan South Midlands Premier
26th September2009

Jets managed to get a second win off the trot for the first time this season when they won 2-1 at Haringey to follow up on the midweek win over Hillingdon. Jets lost three players from that game but were boosted massively with the return of Luke Beardsworth, who flew in from Spain in the early hours, and Marc Ayres and Michael Wyatt were recalled into the side.

Jets started brightly on the difficult surface but in fairness the game did not ever reach fever point in the heat, but Lee Grace did look to have given Jets the lead after twelve minutes but his long range shot was ruled offside due to another player.

Jets, however, did take the lead after 20 minutes when Adam Lowton slotted into the bottom corner from a superb Andrew Lomas through ball. The smiles were soon wiped from the Jets players faces when a lazy pass by Andrew Lomas went straight to a Haringey player who ran and hammered past Joe Marsh. The rest of the first half offered very little from both sides and ended 1-1.

Jets came out much stronger in the second half and only the Haringey ‘keeper's acrobatics prevented Jets from increasing the lead many times, completing some outstanding saves to deny Jets time and time again.

Jets finally broke the deadlock on 63 minutes when Andrew Lomas went on a solo jinking run and shot from just inside the penalty box to clinch the points.

Haringey did come on strong in the last ten minutes and Ben Chandler earned his man of the match award with some important challenges. This was not a classic but six points in a week after the start Jets had will be more than welcome, and the team now brimming with youngsters will need to settle for a while. The future looks bright !
