Jets went for the first time ever to tread the turf that such glorious genius names as George Best have trodden in the past, when they played as Dunstable Town on Saturday.
Dunstable are one of the favourites to be battling out the top spot for a quick return up the pyramid, but on the day Jets can feel hard done by coming home empty.
The game again needed a team reshuffle with Andrew Lomas working abroad and Dave Maynard strangely preferring to be at the birth of his first baby!! (Congrats mate honest !!) So Gladdy and Bellotti were given starts back in the side.
The game had little goal mouth action to talk of with Jets edging slightly, mainly two snap shots just inches over the bar by Beardsworth. Jets were stung when a Dunstable break was not dealt with, again some schoolboy action, as three Jets defenders turned their backs allowing Perrin to convert a soft opportunity that turned out to be the winning goal.
In the second half Jamie Arthur was introduced and for the next twenty minutes Jets streamed forward with Bellotti, Arthur ,Beardsworth and Gladdy tearing at Town in an all out attack period, twice chances fell to "spider-man" Beardsworth, and the goal looked on, but twice last gasp blocks denied Jets.
Finally, Jets thought they had done it when Ian Bywater smashed home a low stinger into the corner of the net, but the horror on the Jets’ faces was evident as the referee ruled out the goal, and gave Jets a free kick outside the box. This did deflate Jets and the final period of the game was fairly sterile as Jets looked tired, with so many players returning from illness and injury. Jets still did push to the final whistle for what would have been a deserved point, but it was not to be. Narrowly beaten, but a very very good football display by the young Jets side.
