Jets Win Super Shootout

Jets 4 Dunstable Town 3

Spartan South Midlands Premier
23rd January 2010

Jets pulled off a super home win against Dunstable Town to avenge the 1-0 defeat earlier in the season. The game was played as an old fashioned "man’s game" and was a sparkler action packed game by two fully committed teams.

The early ten minutes  was Towns as Jets let themselves down with wayward passing, but they then pulled things back together and took the game to the Town. It was a little against the run of play when Town took the lead after 23 minutes when Chris Harding gave away a reckless  free kick on the edge of the box and Russell Preston's dead ball shot hit the wall and deflected over Jets keeper Sam Styles on his club debut.

Jets (40minutes) pulled it back to 1-1 when Chris Ingham’s long range effort was equally deflected past the keeper. Then, before half-time, Lee Armitt was unlucky not to have had a penalty when he was heavily felled by the keeper but the ball was judged to be out of play before the contact  Half Time 1-1

Nobody could have seen the second half coming! Dunstable went straight at Jets and Jets countered fully, it was end to end stuff, blow for blow, and first blood went to Town when, after they were denied by Sam Styles, poor defending allowed Luke Flood to slot home.1-2 (48minutes).

The lead lasted just three minutes and a silly foul outside the box was lashed home by Man of the Match Tim O'Mara while Dunstable were not organised.(51min).

Jets sensed the kill and went for Town, and two goals in three minutes by Luke Beardsworth gave Jets some breathing space against the promotion contenders. The first came from a shot from out wide that was lashed goalwards, the keeper went down but fumbled and the ball went over the line. 3-2 (60min)

Then Beardsworth himself went through and was seemingly brought down by the keeper, but nothing was given and Jets whipped the ball back into the box and a defender handled, this time a loud whistle and an assistant flag across the chest left no doubt about the decision. Up stepped Luke Beardsworth for 4-2 (63min).

Game over!! NO WAY. Again Town came back and responded and Steve Brown clearly pushed a Town player in the box and up stepped Neil Perrin to convert 4-3 (65min).

The final twenty five was frantic with all out attacking by both teams, and both keepers on their respective debuts pulled off outstanding saves. Jets held on for all three outstanding points. SUPER GAME
