Young Jets Show their Style

Kentish Town Academy 4 Jets Academy 4

8th March 2010

The Academy team played their last league game of the season, and again the goals flowed at both ends, and only a super dipping shot deep into stoppage time denied Jets a winning finish for the season.

Jets are an average of three years younger than most teams this season, and only the strength of the age gap has proved the turning point late in most games.

Jets opened the scoring early in this one, but went 2-1 down before hauling back to lead 3-2 at the break with goals from Jake Grace and Jake Davison.

Kentish Town, whose team is part of the Arsenal football in the community programme, again pulled the game back to 3-3 and started to looked the stronger side, but an outstanding volley from Michael McRoberts edged Jets  back 4-3 to lead and hopefully end on a high. Jets so often have been denied at the final curtain and it happened again with the very last kick of the match.

Jets General manager praised the team and the staff after the final game saying “the team was always going to be up against it this season due to the age gap between us and most of the other teams, but the performances have been outstanding and a credit to the club. Things can and will move forward and with some of the youngsters already hitting sixteen, and being able to play in and be part of the senior sides, it can only be good for Jets as a whole. Both Lewis cook and Myles Stephenson have made  first team appearances in the South Midlands Premier division, and Michael McRoberts has been outstanding in the West Herts team.”
